This modification of your LT4 engine produces so many benefits beyond just cooling the oil alone. One of the largest benefits is removing the water circuit from being heated directly from the cold water coming out of your lower radiator hose, being heated to temps exceeding 275º by your engine’s oil during track use, and then being routed directly to the driver’s side engine block at the base of the head. This single path of super heated coolant causes an imbalance of cooling between the left and right sides of your engine and a tuning imbalance to make ultimate power. The fueling of your LT4’s temperature is based upon the sending unit in the outflow of the driver’s side head flowing back to the thermostat. This imbalance can be upwards of 90ºF from the driver’s side to the passenger side of the block, causing wasted fuel, fouled spark plugs and misfire/knocks. Removing the OEM water-to-oil cooler eliminates this thermal imbalance across the engine, reduces fuel consumption, and helps your piston rings seal better to make more power with less blow-by.
